Catalyst is an interactive science centre and museum which aims to entertain, inform and educate. Our key aim is to make science exciting and accessible to everyone and to inform people of all ages about science based industries and their role in our lives – past, present and future.

We research houses and people, railways and canals, churches and farms, land use and occupations………. and are interested in every aspect of our parish’s history – Daresbury, Moore, Preston Brook, Hatton and Sandymoor.

– promote the advancement of the education of the public in all aspects of Preston Brook and surrounding district

The 8D Association is dedicated to promoting the history of the railways of South Lancashire, Merseyside and North Cheshire, particularly within a 10 mile radius of the former Widnes Locomotive Depot which had the code of 8D. It covers both the trains that operated and the infrastructure.

Widnes Historical Society was formed in 1951 with an overall aim to encourage and improve the knowledge of historical topics both nationally and regionally and Halton’s local history with particular reference to Widnes and surrounding areas.

u3a is a UK-wide organisation that provides the opportunity for those no longer in full time work to come together to ‘live, learn and laugh’.

We are a team of volunteers who are tasked with protecting the heritage of St Marie’s following the redevelopment of the building in 2014.

The ‘Daniel Adamson’ is the North West’s Art Deco steamship, rescued by the passion and skill of a volunteer force who run the project and operate the vessel today. Our mission is to ensure the conservation and operation of this unique piece of shipping heritage for the learning, enjoyment and wellbeing of all.

We offer support for local people exploring their family’s history.

Runcorn & District Historical Society was founded in 2000, after meetings between three Runcorn history stalwarts, Messrs Bill Leathwood, Bert Starkey and Alex Cowan.

Club History, verbal and written, has always played a key part in the dynamic and direction of Widnes RUFC. Permanent displays are housed in the Salt Room and the Hunt Room, named after two significant figures in the club’s progress.

The Sankey Canal Restoration Society (SCARS) was formed in 1985 from various local residents who were appalled at the dereliction and neglect of England’s first artificial canal of the industrial revolution.

The Runcorn Locks Restoration Society (RLRS) was formed in 2004 to champion the restoration of the old flight, thereby giving impetus to the re-emergence of Runcorn’s previous heritage as a national centre for boating, a fact now recognised by a commemorative plaque situated on the wall of the Brindley Theatre.

Victoria Park is situated one mile to the north west of Widnes Town Centre. Residential buildings border the Park
and the site is easily accessible from the local housing estates. Local bus routes serve the park at its boundary on
Birchfield Road and Fairfield Road. Widnes Railway Station is in close proximity to the parks northern boundary
being only 2 minutes walk from the park gates, which is the main commuting line between Liverpool and
Manchester.
