Local historical information is available through extensive book collections, parish records, newspaper archives, various family and local history indexes, trade directories, books and maps. Halton Lea Library concentrates on the history of Runcorn and Widnes Library is the place to go for the history of Widnes.
There is also free online access to digital resources such as Ancestry.com and British Newspaper Archive and a collection of local photographs available to view on Picture Halton
