Widnes Historical Society
Widnes Historical Society was formed in 1951 with an overall aim to encourage and improve the knowledge of historical topics both nationally and regionally and Halton’s local history with particular reference to Widnes and surrounding areas.
We aim to keep history alive through sharing information whilst also providing a monthly community event, which is enjoyed by all age groups. We offer local people the opportunity to learn more about the history of Halton, Widnes and surrounding areas through the publication of pamphlets, leaflets and books and attendance at various heritage events.
We arrange regular excursions to places of historic interest, which promotes social inclusion and boosts friendships.
We meet for 10 months of the year on the 2nd Thursday in Farnworth School Hall in Pit Lane (ample parking available – WA8 9HS), where we have a speaker and a chat over a cuppa. Membership of the group is available to all and we provide a welcoming environment where people can learn and meet others and help to combat social isolation.
Non-members are also able to attend for a small fee.
We have a Facebook page with over 2500 members where historical questions are regularly answered by members and followers. Our Facebook page also gives up to date information regarding speakers, dates and times as this can change due to circumstances beyond our control.
