The 8D Association

The 8D Association is dedicated to promoting the history of the railways of South Lancashire, Merseyside and North Cheshire, particularly within a 10 mile radius of the former Widnes Locomotive Depot which had the code of 8D. It covers both the trains that operated and the infrastructure.

The Society has about 80 members and the ‘On Shed’ journal is published four times per year in March, June, September and December. It also holds monthly meetings. During the Winter these are indoor presentations mainly concerning railways of local interest. All indoor meetings are held at the DCBL Stadium (Widnes RLFC). In the Summer visits are arranged to railways of local interest, some where railways have only operated in the past.

If you have any interest in the local history, particular the railways, you can learn a lot more by joining 8D. Membership is £12 annually.

The website is https://8dassociation.org This gives more details about the Society, how to join, events and lots of information and pictures of the local railways, many of which have closed. The telephone contact is Chris Lewis on 01514231302. Please leave a message if out.
